A driving test cancellation app tells you when an earlier test date comes free at the centre you want, so you can move your booking before someone else takes it. Plenty of learners search for one, but you do not need to download anything to get the same result. What matters is how quickly you hear about a date, which centres are covered, and what you pay.
What a driving test cancellation app does
Every test slot belongs to somebody. When a learner moves or cancels, that slot goes back into the official booking service and the next person to take it gets it. A cancellation app, checker or alert service exists to tell you the moment one of those dates appears, so you are not the one refreshing a screen all day.
That is the whole job. It does not create extra tests and it cannot get round the DVSA rules. The dates are the same ones anybody could take. The difference is that you hear about them in time.
The gap between the advertised wait and what learners really waited is made up of cancellations. People who sat their test early did not get a special list. They heard about a date and said yes.
Is there an official DVSA app?
No. The DVSA does not have an app for booking tests or finding cancellations. The official way to book or change a test is the change your driving test service on GOV.UK, which you use in a web browser. The official DVSA apps are learning tools, such as theory test practice. Any app or service offering cancellation alerts is independent of the DVSA.
Do you need to download anything?
Not really. An app only helps if its alert reaches you fast and you notice it. Notifications from apps get muted, batched or switched off by your phone, and an app you have not opened for a week can stop sending them at all.
A text message or a WhatsApp message lands the way a message from a friend does. You already check both, there is nothing to install or keep updated, and it works the same on any phone. For something where the date can be gone quickly, the channel you look at most is the one that counts.
What to check before you choose one
- How you paySome services charge a weekly or monthly subscription whether they find you anything or not. Others charge nothing upfront and only ask for payment when they find a test and you take it. Work out what you would pay if it took two months.
- Which centres it coversYou can move to any of the three centres nearest to the one you booked at. A service that only looks at one centre gives you a third of the chances. Our waiting times table shows how much waits differ between neighbours.
- Whether you stay in controlYou should always be told about a date first and decide whether it suits you. Nothing should be moved without your yes.
- How you are toldCheck whether alerts come as app notifications, email, SMS or WhatsApp. Email is the slowest to be noticed. SMS and WhatsApp are the quickest.
- What other learners sayRead reviews on an independent site such as Trustpilot rather than the ones on the service's own page. Look for recent reviews from people who actually got a date.
The DVSA rules still apply
Whatever you use, the official rules decide what you can do with a date once you hear about it.
- You get two changes on a car test. Moving to an earlier date uses one of them.
- Changing or cancelling without paying again needs 10 full working days' notice, measured from your current test. Sundays and bank holidays do not count.
- You can only move to one of the three centres nearest to where your test is booked, or back to the one you first chose.
Moving to an earlier date costs nothing from the DVSA. Your test fee of £62 on a weekday or £75 at evenings, weekends and bank holidays stays with your booking.
Alerts by SMS and WhatsApp, no app needed
Tell us your centre and the months that suit you, and we watch for an earlier date on your behalf. You hear by SMS and WhatsApp the moment one appears, and you decide whether to take it. There is nothing to download. Nothing to pay upfront, and you only pay if we find you a test and you take it. There is more on how it works on our driving test cancellations page.

Questions about driving test cancellation apps
Is there an app for driving test cancellations?
There are independent apps and alert services, but none of them are run by the DVSA. The official booking service is a website on GOV.UK, and the DVSA has no app for booking or finding cancellations.
Do driving test cancellation apps work?
They can, if the alert reaches you quickly and you can accept the date straight away. The dates are real cancellations from other learners, so speed and being ready to say yes make the difference.
Are driving test cancellation apps free?
Some are, but many charge a subscription whether they find you a date or not. Others, like us, charge nothing upfront and you only pay if a test is found and you take it.
Can I get cancellation alerts without an app?
Yes. Alerts by SMS and WhatsApp work on any phone with nothing to install, and they are harder to miss than app notifications.
Does moving to a cancellation cost extra?
Not from the DVSA. Your fee stays with your booking. It does use one of your two changes, and you need 10 full working days' notice from your current test.
Can a cancellation app book a test at any centre?
No. The rules only let you move to one of the three centres nearest to where your test is booked, or back to the centre you first chose.
