Months away? You can move it
You can move a booked driving test to an earlier date, and you don't have to sit refreshing the booking page to find one.
Here's how changing your test works, the three rules to know before you touch your booking, and how we find earlier dates for you.

Can you change your driving test to an earlier date?
Yes. You can change a booked car test through the official booking service on GOV.UK. You'll need your driving licence number and your test reference number.
The hard part is finding an earlier date to move to. At most busy centres there's nothing free for months, and earlier dates only come up as driving test cancellations, when other learners move or cancel theirs. They don't stay free for long, so catching one can mean checking again and again for weeks.
Changing your practical driving test
The practical test is the one people mean when they talk about changing their driving test, and the words vary: change my practical driving test, change practical test date, amend the booking, reschedule it. They all describe the same thing, and the same three rules apply to all of them.
Theory tests are booked separately and have their own rules, so changing one has no effect on the other.
The rules to know before you change your test
- Give at least 10 full working days' notice. Any less and you'll have to pay for your test again.
- You can only change a car test 2 times.
- You can only have one test booked at a time.
These rules come from GOV.UK and can change, so check there before you change anything.
If you just want the mechanics, our step by step guide to rebooking covers what you need to hand and the mistakes that cost people their fee.

Questions people ask
Is there a fast track driving test?
No. There's no separate fast track test or queue, it's the same driving test. What you can do is move to an earlier date, and that's where we come in: we usually find learners an earlier date within 1 to 2 weeks of signing up.
Can I get a short notice or last minute test?
Sometimes, when someone cancels close to their test. They go quickly, so if we find one we'll ring you as well as sending an SMS and WhatsApp.
Is there an app for driving test cancellations?
You don't need one with us. Everything comes to your phone by SMS and WhatsApp, which you'll usually see faster than an app notification.
Can I move to a different test centre?
Only to one of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked, or back to the centre you first booked at. If one of those has a shorter wait it can be worth it, and our test centre pages show the waiting time and pass rate for each one.
